With its extensive endorsements and sponsorships, there’s a good chance you’ve seen IPVanish all over the web. But does their service live up to the marketing hype? Let’s see what experts are saying about this popular VPN.
For pricing, you can’t get much simpler than IPVanish.
There are three plans from which to choose -- which all offer the same features.
Billing options include every month, every three months, once a year. The monthly price is comparable to other mainstream VPN services. But you can save money if you’re willing to go with a longer subscription.
IPVanish offers apps for Android, iOS, Linux, Mac, ChromeOS, and Windows. If that’s not enough, you can even configure it to work on routers and Windows Phones.
Why have a VPN on your router? This allows you to protect hardware that doesn’t support VPN apps -- such as your PlayStation, Smart TV, or Roku.
IPVanish tries to stand apart from the crowd with their client UI. But, for those familiar with VPNs, their changes might be jarring.
Instead of having the standard connect/disconnect button and a list of locations, IPVanish’s panel hides your country choices in dropdown lists and has two buttons -- connect/disconnect and on/off -- which essentially do the same thing.
It’s not a VPN that’s user friendly.
However, TechRadar notes, “Its client looks more complex than the competition, but that’s mostly because they have more features and functionality…”
IPVanish gives you unlimited simultaneous connections. If you have a lot of devices you need to protect, this service makes doing so easy.
IPVanish comes with plenty of features. Popular ones include:
IPVanish also offers a great deal of control over your OpenVPN setup. You can choose which port to use and can also obfuscate the traffic to avoid detection in geo-restricted areas such as China.
The company’s privacy policy states they do not collect or log any traffic and do not sell or rent personal information to third-parties.
Despite this, IPVanish responded to a summons from the US Department of Homeland Security to hand over information on user activities in 2016.
But since then StackPath bought IPVanish. They stated publicly, “With no exception IPVanish does not, has not, and will not log or store logs of our users as a StackPath company.”
You’ll always experience some slowdown when web browsing using a VPN -- either with slower upload or download speeds or higher latency. However, when put to the test, reviewers were pleasantly surprised with IPVanish’s overall performance.
IPVanish touts 24/7 customer support -- complete with live chat. This makes them a great choice if you want help immediately. If you can wait for one to two days, you can submit support tickets.
Self-help options include a useful support center and knowledge base. However, reviewers noted some answers are short. If you’re looking for detailed answers, you’ll want to use email support or live chat.

IPVanish offers fast performance, a wide variety of server locations, and plenty of customization. PC Mag states, “... it’s good enough to be listed among the best services we’ve tested.”
- Keelan Balderson, MSPoweruserThere isn’t much not to like. Get unlimited connections, a very fast network, advanced split tunneling, and access to geo-restricted streaming services. Threat protection at no extra cost is the icing on the cake. Although other VPNs might have more servers or locations, most users don’t need these,...
- River Hart, Tom's GuideAlthough IPVanish isn't a market leader, it still packs an impressive amount of features and robust security, as well as unlimited simultaneous connections. This old-school favorite is quick, reliable, and unblocks plenty of streaming services—making it hard not to recommend.
- Daniel, VPNveteranOur review of IPVanish finds that it is a decent VPN service, particularly for torrenting and streaming. The software is easy to install, making it a good option for users with older computers, cell phones, and notebooks. IPVanish offers flexible payment options, including a discount, and their cust...
- Tyler Lee, PhandroidThis is pretty awesome value for money and could be worth checking out if you’re interested in protecting your privacy online.
- Christopher Seward, VPN CompareIPVanish has been one of my favourite VPN services in recent years and in my latest tests I’ve found they still offer the robust and reliable service you would expect from a leading provider. The most significant change in recent times has been that IPVanish was acquired by J2 Global and it has now...
