Unlike the jump from the original Oasis to the 2017 model, Amazon's latest release -- the Kindle Oasis (2019) or Kindle Oasis (3rd generation) -- is more of a minor update than a major overhaul.
In fact, there are only 3 changes to be found -- but one of them could be very important to you depending on when and where you read.
Let's get the smaller ones out of the way first:
- The Kindle Oasis 2019 features an optimized page-turning system. While Amazon claims its the fastest ever, the Oasis 2017 was no slouch and few reviewers noticed an obvious difference.
- It's slightly more expensive. Which wouldn't always be a big deal, but the Oasis series has always had luxury pricing. If you're looking for a budget e-reader, the Oasis (2019) is not it.
But the big update which should interest anyone looking at the Kindle Oasis 2019 is the screen.
This is the first Kindle e-reader to feature a temperature adjustable light.
This means you can make the screen warmer (yellower) or cooler (bluer) based on your preferences. It should also help to reduce eyestrain on those late-night reading binges.
Reviewers found the lighting smooth and the adjustment capabilities nice. You can even schedule when you'd like the temperature to change so you never have to dive into the settings yourself.
Otherwise, the Kindle Oasis (2019) is identical to the Oasis (2017) -- it even supports the same accessories. So if you'd like to know about performance, screen quality, Audible support, and other factors, be sure to check out our Kindle Oasis (2017) summary for a full run down of what reviewer's are saying.
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Sarah Saril, Business InsiderAmazon's Kindle Oasis is still a great e-reader for buyers who want physical page turn buttons and premium features like rotating screen orientation, but at over four years old, this model is showing its age.
- Henry T. Casey, Tom's GuideWith its sleek metallic design, clicky buttons and new customizable page hues, the Amazon Kindle Oasis offers more than your average e-reader. If only its price weren't nearly twice as much as the Paperwhite's.
- Aaron Brown, T3Despite being an infinitesimal upgrade on its predecessor, the new Kindle Oasis still stands head and shoulders above every other ereader on the market right now. With a high-resolution e-ink display with variable levels of warmth, a waterproof aluminium design, physical page-turn buttons, and the a...
- Tom Bedford, TechRadarThe Kindle Oasis is the most premium ereader experience right now, with a large, high-quality screen, automatic brightness and even display warmth settings. However, despite all its bells and whistles, the Oasis doesn’t quite feel like it justifies its high asking price.
- Ally Thomas, Laptop MagFor $249, the Kindle Oasis provides a premium reading experience with the ability to read just about anywhere thanks to its numerous brightness settings and waterproofing. And thanks to its long battery life, it can be used as an everyday device for any book lover who doesn’t want to lug around a to...
