7.1/10
Informr score
The Unihertz Jelly Pro currently has an Informr score of 7.1 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 3 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Inexpensive
  • Decent Performance
  • Compact

What's bad

  • Not enough battery
  • Poor camera

For someone looking to downsize for comfort or in an attempt to take a step back from their smartphone addiction, this might just be the choice. But is a touchscreen this tiny useful? After all, it doesn't matter how smart the device is if you can't use it accurately. Let's see what reviewers think!

Design

About the size of two thumbs stacked together, the all-plastic body of the Unihertz Jelly Pro is about as small as smartphones can get. It features a headphone jack and a micro USB slot on the side and one speaker on the bottom. The available colors are; black, blue, and white.

Display

The 2.4-inch display is very small but competent enough considering the size. Reviewers said it was plenty responsive though and free from jitter or stutter.

Performance

Its performance is smooth and plenty capable of handling everyday tasks such as checking email, keeping up with social media, or reading the occasional blog post or news article. Just keep in mind that the size of the device means it’s not ideal for multitasking.

Reviewers noted that you need to keep an eye on power settings in order not to drain your battery quickly. Background apps are not your friend with this device

Software & Storage

The Unihertz Jelly Pro ships with Android 7 (Nougat) and Google Apps are included. An upgrade to Android 8 is available, but don’t expect to see updates to the latest versions. Along with its diminutive size, the available space is equally small with 32GB on deck. However, the phone’s included microSD slot -- accessible through the removable backplate -- makes expanding storage cheap and painless.

Cameras

The phone’s 8MP camera is not going to outperform any smartphone on the market right now. However it’s better than not having a camera at all when you need or want it and still outperforms most similarly sized flip and feature phones.

Battery Life

If you’re an avid smartphone user, battery life is going to be a major disappointment. Most reviewers clocked their use at 4 hours depending on their activity before needing to find a charger..

Audio

Despite its size and only one speaker, the Unihertz Jelly Pro is surprisingly loud. But as with most phones, the sound is rather flat. You’re in luck, however, as the phone has a headphone jack and reviewers said the audio was impressive through headphones for a phone so small.

Specs at a Glance

  • Plastic chassis
  • 2.4-inch display
  • Quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor 1
  • 3GB of RAM
  • Android 7 (Nougat)
  • 32GB of storage with MicroSD slot
  • 8MP camera
  • 950mAh battery

Bottom Line

With a lot of interest in reducing screen time and walking away from phone addiction, this phone could fit the bill. It’s tiny -- as in “might get lost in your pocket” tiny -- and it runs smooth enough even if the battery life leaves a lot to be desired. But all of this creates an experience that is far less likely to suck you in for hours at a time. It’s a phone meant to be used as needed then put away.

The Gadgeteer says, “Jelly is a tiny Android smartphone that’s pocket and budget-friendly and can support 2 SIM cards and a micro SD card for memory expansion.”

Android Police comments, “A small but vocal group of us continue to feel defeated by the ever-expanding size of mainstream smartphones. The ‘good old days’ of smaller screens are starting to feel like a time long past, barely a glimmer on the horizon of technology's rapid advance in the smartphone era.”

What the Critics Are Saying...

Coolsmartphone
Coolsmartphone

If you’re looking for a diminutive and different smartphone, this is definitely one to consider. Despite the presence of two SIM cards, this is best as a secondary phone, and you should think about this as a fitness tracker that does your music, social media and phone calls too.

Buy the Jelly Pro for one of two uses. First of all, as an Android-powered music player for runners, it's a great, light solution. But also, if you need to stay in touch but don't want to stay in touch—if you want to make staying in touch a little difficult—this is a really interesting choice. If yo...

Just about anything your larger Android phone can do, the Unihertz Jelly pro can do. It’s just smaller, cuter, and more pocketable. Is this the phone that will replace your top of the line Android phone? No! But the Jelly Pro is the phone that you can take with you when you’re going out and you need...
